Starfield character creation options explained

Starfield character creation starts with selecting a Biometric ID preset, then customizing the character’s body shape, appearance, and background. The Body tab allows players to adjust physique and walk style, while the Face tab offers extensive options for facial features, including detailed sliders for every feature, skin tone, and a variety of makeup, blemishes, scars, and tattoos. The Background section provides a starting skill bonus and lore, while the Traits section offers optional character-defining perks and drawbacks.

Biometric ID

• Presets: Choose from 40 preset templates to start.
• Later Changes: Your appearance can be adjusted later at Genetics facilities throughout the galaxy. 

Body

• Shape: Use a circular grid to balance between muscular, heavy, and thin.
• Walk Style: Select one of three walk styles visible in third-person view.
• Skin Tone: Set your character’s skin tone in this menu. 

Face

• Basic Appearance: Customize your character’s skin tone, hair, hair color, and facial hair.
• Detailed Refinements: Fine-tune head shape, eyes, eyebrows, nose, ears, cheeks, mouth, jaw, and chin using detailed sliders for shape, size, and position.
• Markings & Adornments: Add and customize elements like blemishes, scars, tattoos, makeup, jewelry, and piercings.

Background

• Compulsory Choice: This is a required selection that provides a starting bonus in three specific skills.
• Examples: Some backgrounds include Spacer (Bonus to Piloting and Engineering), Scientist (Bonus to Science and Medicine), or Soldier (Bonus to Combat and Leadership). 

Traits

• Optional: Choose up to three optional traits that offer a combination of benefits and drawbacks.
• Examples:
  • Gifted: Grants a bonus to all skills.
  • Quick Learner: Provides a bonus to experience gain.
  • Toughness: Increases health and damage resistance.
  • Hero Worshipped: Gives you an Adoring Fan companion.
  • Dream Home: Grants a luxury estate on a planet, but requires you to send a portion of your credits home each week.
